Matthew Aaron Burkhart, 54, of Delphi passed away on May 19, 2023 at Franciscan Health in Lafayette. He had battled several illnesses in recent months.
Matthew was born on June 15, 1968 in Lafayette to Janice (Matthews) and William “Bill” Burkhart. He was a 1986 graduate of Harrison High School and a 1989 graduate of Vincennes University with an associates degree in Marketing Management.
He married Beth Ann Rygelski on May 7, 1994 in Cary, North Carolina. They celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary recently.
Matthew worked rehabbing homes and worked with Hammons Walnut processing as a huller.
He was a 28-year member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Delphi, a previous member of the VFW Men’s Auxiliary, and the Deer Creek Township Advisory Board where he was newly elected.
He enjoyed fishing with his son, David and gardening and canning. He loved his family and enjoyed helping others. He loved watching his children grow and tried hard to provide for them. Matt was proud to live in Delphi. He enjoyed attending the Purdue Women’s Basketball games.
Along with his wife, Beth Ann, he is survived by his children: Katlyn Burkhart of Greenwood, Jessica Burkhart of Bolivar, MO and David Burkhart of Delphi; his mother, Janice (Matthews) Burkhart of Delphi and his father, William “Bill” Burkhart (Deb) of Lafayette; his brother, Neal Burkhart of Delphi and step-brother, Justin Burkhart of West Lafayette.
Visitation will be on Thursday, May 25, 2023 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Davidson Funeral Home, Delphi. Rosary at 4:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on May 26, 2023 with burial in Zion Citizens Cemetery in rural Carroll County.
Memorial contributions in Matt’s memory may be made to the Carroll County Community Foundation, 4-H Pork Cookoff /4-H Outdoor Cooking.
